Obsidian and inXile Entertainment Game Studios Acquired by Microsoft


At the X018 event, Microsoft officially announced the purchase of Obsidian and inXile Entertainment. Both the companies will still function independently with the task to build new RPG games for Microsoft's targeted audience. Obsidian Entertainment is mostly known for its games such as South Park : The Stick of Truth and Fallout : New Vegas, while the inXile Entertainment is known for its Torment : Tides of Numenera and Wasteland 2.


Microsoft also recently announced that it purchased four other gaming studios namely Undead Labs, Ninja Theory, Playground Games and Compulsion Games at its E3 2k18 press conference. Playground Games is popularly known for its Forza Horizon series on Xbox and PC. Microsoft is planning to focus on the first-party games, as Xbox One fall behind the order among the consoles of this generation.

Matt Booty the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Studios stated that, " It was important for us to find studio partners who have strong creative visions, a mastery of their medium and are expert world-builders." He also added saying," As part of Microsoft Studios, Obsidian and inXile will have the support and freedom to fully realise their creative ambitions on both existing franchises and new RPG projects."
